Rooted deep into Hip Hop, CLEVER is a gifted unique Hip Hop artist hailing out of Virginia. VA native 7 City representative, Clever was born in Norfolk, Virginia, having been raised out Virginia Beach and Portsmouth, VA. His home is known as the “757” or “7 Cities”, which embodies all of the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area. Separating himself from the pack, this lyricist has crafted a style that displays vivid illustrations through his wordplay. Not to be categorized with the cliché artists of today’s RAP music, you’re sure to hear a broad content of subjects from his music.
“Clever was a name I came up with towards the end of HS when I was trying to define myself. I didn’t want to be a LIL or Young such and such but a name I could identify with. Those who know me know I always have a slick or outrageous way of doing things. Clever was perfect a intellect yet a trickster Ya Dig”
A true 80's baby he was influenced by many artists in the early 90's from Jay-Z, Nas, Busta Rhymes, a Tribe Called Quest, Common, Canibus, Wu-Tang Clan, Kid n Play, Kriss Kross, Da Brat, and Bone Thug n Harmony just to name a few.
“I’m just out here trying to make it happen. I feel like I got a message that needs to reach the masses. My music is a reflection of me and my life experiences, and I know there are people in the world that can relate. I know somebody is thinking to themselves like Man that just happened to me or like WOW this is what I needed to hear to get me going.”
With his 1st project released in 2007 titled Failure’s Not An Option, Clever was able to come into his own and show people he could rap. Teaming up with a few childhood friends his network was able to expand; he was taught how to make his web presence more effective. Understanding the power of networking and the many tools to become more effective has been a major key to success. After a long hiatus and a new spark fueling his passion his 2nd project titled THE INVESTMENT “You Get Out What You Put In” has shown a lot of growth as individual an artist.
“I believe a lot of things happen in life for a reason, I went through my time off to get my life together. During what would appear to be my absence in the music world I was able to learn myself a lot better and gained more knowledge and confidence on why I’m doing this. They say if you can do something and not get paid to do it then you’ve found your passion, I’ve found mine so I’m going to make it happen.”
Reintroducing the world to CLEVER who uses the catch phrase 6 Letters There’s None Better is on a tear to be heard one listener at a time. As his brand builds and his indie label and soon to be powerhouse Makin It Happen Ent gains exposure, this artist is on his way to being a household name.
