Theres a birds nest on the wreath on my storm door and I think that the constant opening and closing of the door, and my dog barking has scard the birds off. How would I know if the birds abondoned it and what should I do with it? P.S. It’s kind of a werid question. (:

My german short hair(a bird dog) stays outside and his food is there too. He most always has food in his bowl so he can eat. But this is the time of the year where birds start coming back and they come in flocks of 10+ to our porch where his bowl is kept, and they steal his food. It’s very annoying because my bird dog just sits and stares at them and the birds poop all over my porch. How can I stop these pesky birds and save my dog’s food AND my porch?

When I put out food for the birds, the pigeons, magpies and starlings scoff the lot, leaving thin pickings for the tits, robins and sparrows e.t.c. (And the squirrels certainly make sure they get their share)

I have feeders that are meant to discourage the bigger birds, but they don’t flummox the squirrels and the starlings manage to cling on.

I have special cages over the bird table and on the ground, but the food in them remains uneaten until the foxes dig it out. The little birds don’t seem to make use of this facility, but will come and take the last bits left by the bigger birds.

Do you know of anyway of encouraging them to make use of the food in these cages?

I have two little birds that fell off a tree. I took’em in for a little while coz’ there was a cat tryin to eat it. After a little while, I send’em out only to see that the big birds(probably their parents) were tryin to peck on em n tryin to kill them. I love working in my yard and have been hanging bird houses and bird feeders this year. I’ve really given no thought to particular types of birds though. I feed wild birds throughout the winter for the fun of it and don’t want to quit feeding them, but a hawk keeps killing them. I live in a semi-rural area in Southern Ohio and love my birds. The feeder is near my kitchen window (15ft) and the Hawk swoops in from field and scares the birds. Normally birds fly into the window and the hawk picks them up and carries them away. It has killed over 8 birds and it has left 2 birds to die on my deck. Please help me.

I know it is some specific word for birds. It is the muscle that connects their wings to their chest bones that gives the flying birds the ability to fly. Non-flying birds do not have this muscle. It’s not pectoral, it is a certain specific bird word and I can’t find it on the internet and I don’t remember what page it is on in my biology book.

We don’t have a bird feeder, or birdboxes. but recently there have been several species of birds coming to nest in our window sills (we have a wall of a bunch of windows, and now there at 3 birds nests in them) also, birds will continuously throw themselves up against the glass. i woudn’t be so freaked, but the birds are all diffrent kinds. as i write this now i am listening to two diffrent birds throw themselves against a window. When birds aren’t flying and are on the ground, I’ve noticed that some types of birds walk and other types of birds hop (without flapping their wings).

Why? For example, when it comes to humans, you don’t have white people walking while hispanic people are hopping and black people somersaulting. Every human walks basically the same way. Don’t you think birds should decide on whether they are walkers or hoppers? I feel very strongly about this.
